On 25 September 2014, SMRT Buses announced that ST Kinetics has provided one MAN A95 double-decker demonstrator for a year long trial, registered as SMB5888H. The MAN A95 marks another attempt by MAN to re-enter the right-hand drive (RHD) double-decker market since the 3-axle MAN A34 in 2003 and the 2-axle MAN A48 (with Kinetec+ bodywork) in 2006.

While the A95 chassis is marketed by MAN as the 'Lion's City DD', its bodywork was supplied and assembled by Gemilang Coachworks from Malaysia using Alcan's EcoRange aluminum-based technology. The 'Lion's City DD' name originally referred to the 13.7m MAN A39 previously offered as an integral product by MAN in European countries (this length has since been re-designated as Lion's City DD L). This is a reflection of how globalization has caused a paradigm shift in the supply chain of major vehicle manufacturers.

The MAN A95 is fully low-floor. Its Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and PM-Kat filter technology (the latter developed by MAN) does away the need for additives in exhaust treatment, while still able to meet the Euro V emission standards. They are powered by the MAN D2066LUH-32 diesel engine (10,518cc), and are fitted with 6-speed ZF Ecolife 6AP 2000B automatic transmission.

EDS was supplied by Aesys of the Libra make, which could also be found on Sentosa Island Volvo B7Rs. Masats outward sliding doors were fitted at the exit for additional safety. Air-conditioning was supplied by Denso of Japan.
