While Chinese-made coaches are common in Singapore, the Yutong is the first made-in-China vehicle to be operated by a public transportation company. For many months SMB135C was barred from being reported on, but on 20 August 2009 it was finally unveiled unceremoniously on Service 854.

SMB135E featured a Cummins ISBE4 225B engine and was fitted with a ZF Ecomat 6-speed automatic transmission. As this demonstrator was delivered with its original interior closer to Chinese than local specifications, certain modifications were required before it was deemed suitable to enter service.

Upon completion of its one year trial, the bus was returned to the distributor who sold it to Bedok Transport. It is now a private coach registered under PC194T and subsequently, PH8811S.
