Home / SMRT Buses, Singapore (before GCM/BCM) / Mercedes-Benz O405G (Hispano Habit) / Batch 1 296

The Habit-bodied Mercedes-Benz O405Gs are the signature bendy buses for TIBS (and now SMRT Buses) for many years. The Hispano Habit bodywork was designed by Pininfarina, who is famous for the design of its high-end car designs. Plug doors were fitted on the two exits, and the interior design was also given a makeover. It is the most common type of bendy buses seen on the roads of Singapore, with a total of 208 buses purchased in three batches and was first introduced in June 2000.

Batch One units were registered TIB1019Z to TIB1147L (excluding TIB1024H which was bodied by Volgren). TIB1019Z to TIB1023K, TIB1061A, TIB1063U to TIB1147L were powered by the turbocharged and intercooled Mercedes Benz OM447hLA Euro I engine (11,967cc), and fitted with 4-speed ZF 4HP 590 automatic transmission. TIB1025E to TIB1060C and TIB1062Y were powered by the Mercedes Benz OM447hLA Euro II engine (11,967cc) and fitted with 3-speed Voith D863.3 automatic transmission. Each bus received EDS that is either from Lawo Luminator Europa (of Aluma make) or Transit Media, both of flip-dot LED type that allow for clearer visibility at night. Underfloor air-conditioning was supplied by Konvekta and Hispacold.

There are only minor differences between Batch One and the other Habits. Batch One uses the older type of Vogelsitze seat buckets and had a mix of Lawo Aluma and Transit Media EDS (of TwinVision LeDot make, later batches used a newer type).
