The last B10TL chassis delivered to SBS Transit received a prototype bodywork by ComfortDelgro Engineering (CDGE) in conjunction with PSV International. Built and assembled locally, it was to serve as the basis for Volvo B9TL CDGE's later design. This bus was registered on 1 March 2005 and had no wheelchair ramp installed, making it the last non-WAB bus in the entire SBS Transit fleet. SBS9889U was originally fitted with a full-LED EDS unit from Transit Media. When the original EDS reached its end of life in 2014, it was replaced by a smaller LECIP unit.
Despite the different interior and exterior appearance SBS9889U is mechanically similar to most other B10TLs, powered by the Euro II compliant Volvo D10A285 engine (9,603cc) and fitted with 3-speed Voith D863.3 automatic transmission. Air-conditioning was supplied by Denso of Japan.
