Home / SBS Transit, Singapore (before GCM/BCM) / Volvo B10TL Super Olympian (Volgren) / SBS9888Y 15

SBS9888Y was the first low-floor double decker bus to be introduced in Singapore, along with a few other demonstrators in its time. It received the Volgren CR222LD bodywork and was a preview to the general public on the next-generation buses that were to come in the 21st century.

It originally served on the old Express 502 route (until it was cut back by NEL rationalisation), and was fitted with a flip-dot Mobitec EDS. Less than a decade later, the EDS was declared unserviceable and removed. The black border surrounding the black desto was once the distinguishing factor between this demonstrator and the production models. The 5-speed ZF 5HP590 automatic transmission is a unique feature in SBS9888Y as well.

SBS9888Y unfortunately met its fiery end along with 5 other double-deckers at Ang Mo Kio depot, destroyed by fire on the morning of 7 March 2010. Nobody was injured in the incident.
