The unit was powered by the Scania DC9 18 310 Euro IV engine (8,867cc), and fitted with 6-speed ZF Ecomat 6HP604CN automatic transmission. Its Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology does away the need for additives in exhaust treatment. The EDS unit was from Hanover Displays, air-conditioning from Eberspächer Sütrak of the R488 type and its interior design similar to its single deck counterparts.
In 2011, SBS7888K was briefly showcased with a special livery at Bangkok to celebrate Scania's 100th anniversary. It returned to Singapore for continued service after the event. As the Government Contracting Model came into effect from late 2016, SBS Transit owned demonstrator buses including this one were reassigned as training buses.
