This demonstrator unit was registered SBS7777Y, and began revenue service on Service 7 (Clementi to Bedok) beginning from 17 Feburary 2014. It is powered by the Volvo D9B310 EC06B engine (9,364cc) which is Euro V compliant with the use of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, requiring the use of Adblue, and is fitted with 4-speed Voith D864.5 automatic transmission. Its all-LED EDS was supplied by Hanover Displays. Its air-conditioning unit was from Denso of Japan.
One notable difference for the interior of this bus as compared to other Volvo B9TLs is the use of Ster NewCity seats from Poland. The use of ultra light material and modular shells for certain sections (especially the rear section of the lower deck) allows for easier removal and maintenance. It is also the first public bus to be fitted with daylight running lights (DRL).
As a major order was placed for 415 Volvo B9TLs with Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodywork on 1 July 2014, it is likely that SBS7777Y will now remain as the sole unit of its type with SBS Transit. As the Government Contracting Model came into effect from late 2016, SBS Transit owned demonstrator buses including this one were reassigned as training buses.
