Home / SBS Transit, Singapore (before GCM/BCM) / Mercedes-Benz O405 (Duple Metsec CAC) 217

The remaining 200 units out of a total 700 Mercedes Benz O405 purchased by then Singapore Bus Services were non air-conditioned, in the era where air-con was a choice of luxury rather than an essential feature today. Introduced in 1990 these buses were bodied by Duple Metsec, had sliding windows and dark blue seat covers in its interior similar to SBS's non air-conditioned Volvo B10M Mk 2, Scania N113CRB, Leyland Olympian 2-axles, and the Mercedes-Benz O305. These features were removed when all units were coverted and fitted with Denso or Sutrak air-conditioning in the turn of the century.

SBS Transit O405s are of Mk I type - They were fitted with the naturally aspirated OM447h engine (11,967cc) and W3E 110/2.2R 3-speed automatic transmission (a few units of this type however were replaced with ZF 4HP 500 automatic). The last of SBS Transit's O405 fleet was fully retired in 2011.
