The O530 Citaros registered under 63XX to 65XX are designated as Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) buses. They are purchased and operated using government funding for a period of ten years from September 2012. These buses are introduced either progressively on overcrowded routes that require additional buses, or on entirely new routes planned by the Land Transport Authority.
Technical-wise, BSEP registered Citaros have the exact same configuration as the Batch 1 and 2 units (both having identical specifications) that were procured earlier by SBS Transit.
At point of introduction, the interior of BSEP buses have newly designed decals encouraging commuters to move towards the rear. From March 2014 onwards, exterior decals promoting Bus Service Enhancement Programme with the slogan "More Buses, Better Rides" could be found on newly introduced buses.
It is likely that a substantial portion of these BSEP buses, if not all, would be eventually transferred to rival operators and operated under the Government Contracting Model by mid-2016.
