Home / SBS Transit, Singapore (before GCM/BCM) / Scania K230UB (EEV, Gemilang) / SBS8562T to SBS8999S 1308

The major workhorse of a new generation of wheelchair accessible buses (WAB), the Scania K230UB was the first low-floor single deck bus to be introduced in mass quantities. A further 600 Euro V units were delivered from March 2009 onwards, bringing the total number of K230UBs operated by SBS Transit to 1,101 and its commonality on the roads has become a model that bus enthusiasts now love to hate.

As the emission standards for new buses were raised by LTA, SBS Transit switched to the Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle (EEV) model for later K230UB purchases. Its Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology does away the need for additives in exhaust treatment. They were powered by the Scania DC9 30 230 EEV engine (9,290cc) that exceeds the existing Euro V emission standards, and fitted with the ZF Ecomat 6HP504CN 6-speed automatic transmission. Bodied by Gemilang Coachworks of Malaysia using Alcan's EcoRange aluminum-based technology, each EEV unit had 1 wheelchair space, Hanover Displays EDS and air-conditioning by Carrier-Sutrak.

There is no visible difference between the two batches of EEV K230UBs other than the number ranges used for vehicle registration. Batch One units were registered SBS8562T to SBS8999S (except SBS8888D, which is a Euro IV unit).
