Registered in 2002, they are the only CNG public buses to enter service. These buses had to be refueled on Jurong Island and originally served Jurong Island services when launched. When private operators took over the contracted services, they were redeployed on Boon Lay and Jurong East routes. In its final years between 2017 and 2019, these buses were assigned to Clementi-based trunk routes.
The CNG version received the updated CR222L bodywork from Volgren, powered by the Volvo GH10B245 engine (9,603cc) and fitted with 4-speed ZF 4HP 500 automatic transmission. Air-conditioning was supplied by Coolair. They are also the last batch of single-deck buses in SBS Transit's fleet to use traditional plastic destination plates to display its route and destination.
