SMRT Buses conducted a six-month hybrid bus trial with a Zhongtong LCK6121G demonstrator between January 2011 and July 2011, registered SMB137A. Similar to the other trial SBS Transit was conducting, it uses the Eaton automatic transmission system.

While the hybrid bus uses its batteries to power the electric motors for most of the time, the Cummins ISBe4 225B Euro IV diesel engine (6,693cc) provided any additional power if necessary. EDS was supplied by Mobitec and air-conditioning from the bus manufacturer itself.

SMRT Buses returned the bus after the trial was completed, and no further purchases were made.
