MAN NL323F A22 (MCV eVolution)

As part of the evaluation of a pending order of 200 new buses, SMRT Buses received a MCV eVolution bodied MAN NL323F demonstrator from ST Kinetics for trial. Registered SMB138Y, it was introduced into service on 29 December 2010 on service 961 (Woodlands to Geylang Lor 1).

The NL323F chassis (coded A22) is fully low-floor. Its Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and PM-Kat filter technology (the latter developed by MAN) does away the need for additives in exhaust treatment, while still able to meet the Euro V emission standards. It was powered by the MAN D2066LUH-32 diesel engine (10,518cc) and fitted with 6-speed ZF Ecolife 6AP 1700B automatic transmission.

EDS was supplied by Hanover Displays, and air-conditioning was from Denso of Japan. This bus was also the first to be fitted with sliding plug-doors at the exit for additional safety. At the end of the trial, SMRT purchased this bus and followed up with a further order of 200 units, but with a different bodywork from Gemilang Coachworks (details).
