Mercedes-Benz O405 (Duple Metsec OAC)

梅斯特斯平治O405型原空調 (都普·金屬) [Config : B47D]
First introduced in 1990, the Mercedes Benz O405 formed the bulk of SBS's air-conditioned fleet throughout the 90s. 300 of the 500 units bodied by Duple Metsec received Fuji or Sutrak air-conditioning. They were easily distinguished by their "box-like" shape.

SBS Transit O405s are of Mk I type - They were fitted with the naturally aspirated OM447h engine (11,967cc) and W3E 110/2.2R 3-speed automatic transmission (a few units however were replaced with ZF or Voith automatic). Originally fitted with grey/blue/grey leather seating, the seat covers and air-con ducts were refurbished in the early 2000s.

The fleet of Duple Metsec OAC O405s were fully retired by 2011. Upon retirement from SBS Transit, selected units were sold second-hand to Bangkok, Thailand, where they were re-bodied, converted to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) operation and deployed on its air-con routes.

The double-leaf front doors had one bigger and smaller in size. In the past, the driver would open only the bigger leaf to control boarding flow, to ensure that every passenger purchased a ticket.

The vintage "Bus Stopping" and "Doors Closing" signs were supplied by S-Light (now LECIP). Tickets were issued via the farecard validator on the right. TV Mobile was fitted on O405 DM OACs during the program's lifespan.

For many years, green seat covers has been used to mark the priority seats. They were traditionally located just before the exit door. In recent times, SBS Transit allocated additional priority seats at the front section of buses.

Instead of 'D', the transmission selector for the W3E 110/2.2R had the options of '1', '2' and '3' on top of 'R' and 'N'. The gauges are placed on the left hand side of the dashboard.
