Some of the stanchion poles near the entrance and exit have a yellow rough layer pasted over that improves passenger grip. Refurbished buses have their original seat covers replaced with a new yellow design.

Rear-to-front interior view (Original)
Triangular hand grips of a newer design were adopted across the DM3500 fleet, allowing standing passengers to hold onto them more easily. The elevated step between the seats and aisle made creation of a dedicated standing area unsuitable.

The bodywork is delivered in complete knock down (CKD) form and then assembled locally by Singapore Bus Services. Buses from DM3500 onwards no longer have rear emergency exits. Instead, hammers are provided to break the glass if necessary for escape.

The DM3500 is the last bus type to adopt bench seating, which has thicker cushion and better comfort. Bells are no longer placed on the side window panel; they can only be found on the stanchion poles.

Last row seats (Refurbished)
As a result, the rear corner seats are wider. With plenty of legroom as well, they are a hot favourite amongst passengers, both usually occupied during journeys.
