Volvo B10BLE

富豪B10BLE (傲群) [Config : B35D]
In 1997, then Singapore Bus Services received its first low-floor bus and demonstrator from Volvo, the B10BLE. It was the direct successor model to the popular B10M series. It was powered by the Volvo DH10A245 engine (9,603cc) that is Euro II compliant, and fitted with 5-speed ZF 5HP 500 automatic transmission. Registered as SBS1668K in January 1998, it had Mobitec flip-dot EDS, and air-conditioning was supplied by Sutrak. The bodywork was from Volgren, of the CR221L make.

In 2001, SBS Transit followed up the order with 12 more B10BLEs, but chose the Compressed Nautral Gas (CNG) version. Registered in 2002, they are the only CNG public buses to enter service. These buses had to be refueled on Jurong Island and originally served Jurong Island services when launched. When private operators took over the contracted services, they were redeployed on Boon Lay and Jurong East routes.

The CNG version received the updated CR222L bodywork from Volgren, powered by the Volvo GH10B245 engine (9,603cc) and fitted with 4-speed ZF 4HP 500 automatic transmission. Air-conditioning was supplied by Coolair, and these buses use the traditional plastic signage to display its route and destination.

The CNG pod is at the front of the bus. This meant that the air-con unit had to be shifted to the rear of the bus. The distinctive hump at the front roof makes it easily identifiable from the outside as a CNG bus.
